Tell the Responsible Jewellery Council to clean up or shut down!
A Peruvian investigation just discovered that American and European companies are profiting from the destruction of the Amazon rainforest.
Incredibly, an industry group called the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has certified two of these companies as “responsible”.
Illegal gold mining is destroying Peru’s Amazon.
The RJC is controlled entirely by mining and jewelry companies. Communities, trade unions, and civil society groups are intentionally excluded from its governance. The two certified “responsible” companies sit on the RJC’s board.
If the RJC is to certify anything other than greenwash, it must first give workers and communities an equal voice. And it must fix itself so that it keeps dirty gold out — and dirty companies don’t get RJC’s seal of approval.
TAKE ACTION: Tell the RJC to stop greenwashing dirty gold! Tell its CEO to clean up or shut down!
