From Cred Jewelers:
January jewellers will be able to buy ethical gold from a new company being launched out of the UK called The Ethical Bullion Company. It is going to offer as it first range of products, simple sheet, wire and grain that is being sourced exclusively from Small scale mining coops that are working within the Association of Responsible Mining. The initial launch will be in the UK and the product will be available some time during 2008 via a web based platform.
The strength and substance of this offer lies in the ARM Fair Trade Gold Standard and that all the participating coops are now currently working towards full certification in early 2009.
The company will act as the commercial platform for the mining coops allowing small scale miners for the first time to have a genuine stake in the commercialization of the product. It is in fact one step further than a normal fair trade process.
Jewellers will be able to buy from EBC by contacting sales at ethicalbullion.com (email address please cut and paste) To register interest, jewellers need to e-mail info at ethicalbullion.com and leave their contact details. Prices and specific product offers will be announced in early January 2008. It will be a one-stop shop for all jewellers who want to drive genuine social and environmental benefits back to small-scale miners, whilst pursuing their personal passion of creating exquisite jewellery with exquisite consequences.
EBC also has plans to establish a platform in the USA in the short term (2008).
The Gold will be pre-fair trade certified called ‘Ethical’ and fully fair trade certified called ‘Fair Trade’ (compliance due early 2009).
This is the beginning of a revolutionary journey of partnership and transformation that we all believe will create a fountainhead of change for jewellers worldwide.
