By Marc Choyt
Source: The UK Sunday Observer named Greg Valerio, co-founder of Fair Jewellery Action, as the World’s Top Global Activist in this Ethical Award ceremony last Friday, June 11th.
Runner ups in the category were Greenpeace and Avaaz.
Here is a video of the event, which includes a short section with Greg and the man who helped to inspire him.
In an unauthorized bio, this is how Greg is described: Maverick, pain in the arse, social entrepreneur, out of the box, radical, passionate, emotional, unmanageable, direct, to the point, breath of fresh air, rebel, visionary, scruffy, non-conformist and dangerous bastard have all been used to describe Greg and his commitment to human rights, ecological responsibility and fair trade in the jewellery sector.
Over the next several months, Greg will star in Gold – The Movie, with documentary film maker Christian Trumble and production company Dartmouth Films. This feature length documentary will be about the International Gold Trade, the winners and losers and the impact this global nontransparent industry has on human rights, the environment and the jewellery trade.
