Press Coverage of the DeBeers Victor Mine Blockade
Here are two perspective articles of interest that help fill out the issues related to the blockade.
The Daily Press, a Canadian publication, posted a story on the blockade’s end. It quotes Tom Ormsby, director of external and corporate affairs for De Beers Canada, who said, “This was not a community-led exercise,” Tom Ormsby,. “This was an individual who had personal concerns, some going back 10 years.”
The article suggests that those who were involved were primarily disgruntled or fired employees. The article does not reference the previous blockade, a little over a year ago.
Another perspective can be found on the Daily Rant and Rave by Cree Yellowlegs, which details a more indigenous, grass roots view of events up in the northern territories.
Still waiting to hear back from Tom Ormsby, who I left a message with Thurs. He had not returned my call. In the meantime, probably on Monday, I will be posting an in depth interview from someone who was involved in the first blockade. This will give you an understanding of events from a much different perspective than the Daily Press.
