A Call To The Jewellery Industry To Support The Launch Of Fairtrade Gold

I am writing to invite you to take part in a secure online survey entitled ‘fairtrade and fairmined gold market survey’. This survey has been commissioned by the Fairtrade Foundation in London aimed at gaining a greater level of understanding into the UK jewellery industry and beyond.
The background to the survey is that over the last three years The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) and latterly the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO) have been working towards the international launch of fairtrade gold in 2010.
In order for this launch to be successful we are looking for the jewellery industry to contribute to this process through the survey so we can shape the market offer and licensing process to the industry in as efficient a way as possible. It is the desire of Fairtrade Foundation and ARM to work as closely with the UK and global jewellery industry to maximize the adoption and sales of fairtrade gold.

The adoption of fairtrade gold by the industry will hail significant developmental impact for the millions of small-scale miners around the world and will play a foundational role in addressing the negative environmental impact of mining as a whole. The fairtrade gold standard has been 3 years in the creation through an extensive international multi-stakeholder consultation process. The final standard is now out for public review at www.fairtrade.net/setting_the_standards.html ou www.communitymining.org/ so in addition to contributing to the market survey you can also review and comment on the standards behind the fairtrade gold offer.
