The Development Of Fair Trade Jewelry Manufacturing Standards
Introduction:
With the colleagues listed below, I am spear-heading an initiative to develop fair trade principles and standards for manufacturing in the jewelry sector. Last May, we developed a set of principles. Now, we are beginning to develop standards for on the ground implementation of these principles. As before, this initiative is open and transparent.

Dear Members of the Madison Dialogue Manufacturing Group,
We would like to ask you once again to join together with the goal of developing fair trade manufacturing standards for the greater jewelry sector.
In the first six months of last year, we had robust participation among almost all the members of our list serve. These efforts resulted in the development of a set of principals which, along with our discussions, were published on fairjewelry.org under this heading:
Madison Dialogue Manufacturing Committee
These Principals provide a broad overview
Our task now is to get down to the application of those ideas in terms of how they might be applied in the real world.
For those of you who participated in the past, we hope that you will continue.
For those who are new to the group, welcome.
Steve D’Esposito, Executive Director of Resolve, has now joined the steering committee, which consists of Vivien Johnston, Fifi Bijoux, Amanda Stark, Fair Trade and Minerals Consultant, and Marc Choyt, President of Reflective Images and publisher of fairjewelry.org.
Cristina Echavarría, Executive Director Alliance for Responsible Mining – ARM, is also joining our dialogue as a member of our steering committee. If anyone in this list serve is not familiar with ARM, please visit their website. http://www.communitymining.org/
Please note that our work, though catalyzed by the Madison Dialogue, is not operating under the auspices of that group. Though we are independent, we do have among us a wide variety of experience. We believe that we have the resources among us and within our greater network to accomplish our objective.
Our group always remains open to others who might be interested in
participating.
Before we start the actual process, below this email you will find a current list of members in this dialogue. Please review it. If you are not listed, or your information is not current, or if you do not wish to continue to be on our list serve, please email Marc Choyt at [email protected].
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to working together.
Sincerely,
Marc, Steve, Amanda, Vivien and Cristina
